It made us sorry to hear that Stan passed away December 22nd. We think of the bereaved and hope that the memory of the good times together with Stan will overshadow the grief.
The first time, Karen and I meet Stan was in April 2007. We had been invited to visit Dorene and Stan in The Villages. We were received with open arms by Dorene and Stan and were pampered in every way. During our stay we have many good talks with Stan about the past and about the future. We learn to know Stan as a person with knowledge, engagement and care. We will always remember The Eikoos family for their hospitality, joy and conviviality.
We will light a candle for Stan.

Stan was the ultimate Father, Husband, and Friend. Together, he and his wife Dorene created such a strong sense of family. As evidenced by all of their daughters being by his side in his last moments in this world. As a new member of the family coming in 20 years ago I was welcomed with open arms and he treated me like the son he never had. He was a second father to me. We bonded over the love of sports but that was just the opening to many other things that brought us closer together.
I think Stan always wanted people to view him as a successful man. Many view success as monetary wealth but he had true wealth in the Family and Friends he surrounded himself with. He can go in peace now knowing that he had such a positive impact on so many people's lives. I will miss him and celebrate his successful life.
I will say one more thing in closing. For those that watched a football game with him, you would only sit next to him one time. When a runner had the ball he would always "help" him get through the line by moving himself from side to side. He put a few kids on the floor no doubt. : )

My Dad had the greatest sense of humor. He always kept everyone laughing. Last Christmas he sent me the following response to a question:

I first met Stan in our kindergarten class at Yale Elementary School in Chicago (1937). We were close friends through high school and afterwards. Stan and I had many adventures together. In late 1951, I was on leave from the Army, and Stan came with me to a nightclub on Rush Street in Chicago where both of us had a little too much to drink. Dorene has never completely forgiven me for that episode.
I was hoping to see Stan at our school reunions in 2011. This won't happen now, but I will share many memories of Stan with his former classmates. I have thousands of wonderful memories of times that I shared with Stan. I will never forget him.
