Obituary of Palmer Loyd Rogers

PALMER LOYD ROGERS, 71 Palmer Rogers of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Tampa, passed on to Our Lord on Dec. 8, 2011, unexpectedly dying of heart failure following open heart surgery at the VA Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Palmer was born February 15, 1940, in Centralia, Illinois, to parents Roy Chester and Cecile (Hollis) Rogers. His father worked in the oil fields and was killed when Palmer was nine years old. He had three sisters Jean, Shirley and Barbara and a brother Roy, Jr.; Jean Rossi of Texas survives him now. Palmer was raised in Wesson, Mississippi, were he loved to play football in high school. He decided while a teenager listening to Billy Graham on the radio, to commit his life to Christ. He was baptized shortly thereafter while attending French Camp Academy and was a devoted Christian to his death. Palmer moved to Tampa in 1958 to serve in the US Air Force. He was then married and with the support of his father-in-law, started what was to become a successful Westshore Area cleaning business that lasted over 21 years. During these years, three of his four children were born, all currently Tampa residents with their families: Pamela Brown (Mark) and their two children Melissa and Scott; Kenny Rogers; Tammy Adkins Webster (David) and three children Allyson, Jennifer and Danielle. In November 2000, Palmer married the former Freda Angele Pisani. They resided in Brandon, where they were active as foster parents and Palmer was in the Real Estate business before moving to Ocala in June 2011. They have one seven-year-old son Bobby. A memorial service for Palmer will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Ocala, 2810 SE Maricamp Road. Visitation will precede the service from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Following the service, the funeral party will proceed to a 1:30 p.m. grave-site military service at The Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
