Obituary of John "Jay" Joseph Clooney Jr.

John “Jay” Joseph Clooney, Jr., age 82, of The Villages, Florida passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021. Jay was the husband of Maureen (Slattery) Clooney, married for 59 years. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jay was the son of the late John and Marion Clooney. Jay previously resided in New Jersey and Massachusetts before retiring to the Villages in 2000. 

Family was most important to Jay. He especially loved spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Maureen, Jay leaves behind his four daughters.  Kathleen and her husband Vincent Farese of North Falmouth, MA, Patricia Clooney and her partner Cindy DiTullio of Medford, MA, Kelly Morse and fiancé James Pringle of Oxford MA, Courtney and her husband Gregory Narozniak of Hillsborough, NJ.  Jay cherished his grandchildren; Vincent Farese Jr, and his wife Sarah, Michael Farese, Brandon Morse, Justin Narozniak, Brielle Morse, Catherine Narozniak and great grandchildren Sloan and Vincent III Farese.

Jay leaves behind his brothers and sisters Peter Clooney, Nancy Nortz, Janet Thoreson, Kevin Clooney, and Brian Clooney as well as many cousins and friends. 

Jay is preceded in death by his parents, brother’s Sean and David Clooney and his sister Diane Clooney.

Jay received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, New Jersey in 1967, while working full time and raising is young family. John worked for many years at Hanover Insurance in Massachusetts and New Jersey, loved to travel, golf and visit with family. He was an active parishioner and volunteer at St Mark the Evangelist.  Jay was a dedicated volunteer to St Vincent De Paul. Previously Jay was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Jay with a viewing on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 2-4 pm, with a prayer service at 4 pm, located at Hiers-Baxley Funeral and Cremation Life Event Center, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, FL.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 10 am, located at St. Mark the Evangelist, 7081 SE Hwy 42, Summerfield, FL 34491.
