Thinking of my friend and most valuable mentor. Early in my career, in my early days in Marlborough politics Joe set the bar for honesty and integrity. Not only his words guided me, every action he took showed him to be the great guy he was. After Marlborough and after politics we stayed in touch for many years until I moved to Virginia. . RIP Joe.

To the Hogan Family we send our sincere condolences. Joe to me personified the Greatest Generation. A child of the Great Depression, he enlisted in the Navy immediately after graduating from high school in 1943. He went on to a distinguished judicial career, being appointed by Massachusetts Gov. Edward King as Clerk/Magistrate of the Natick District Court. He was knowledgeable, fair and respectful to all; and constantly took time to explain confusing judicial procedures to many unrepresented people who had business before the court. He was repeatedly elected president of the Massachusetts Clerk/Magistrates Association, where he led state-wide efforts to improve judicial administration, and upgrade staff pay and working conditions. For attorneys, judges, fellow clerk/magistrates and other officials, Joe was a respected source of common-sense advice in resolving complicated situations. As an Association vice-president serving under Joe’s leadership, I benefitted greatly by his self-effacing example, good humor and dedication to making the world a better place. I admired him greatly. He will long be missed. Terry & Annie Downes, Lowell, MA

Dear Barbara:
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my dear friend Joe. I'm sure you know what a wonderful human being he was, but I want you to know that I thought so also. His work with me at the State House was continuous, he never let up for the so many clerks around the Commonwealth. I want to say that more so he was a great person, we had so much fun together talking politics and more fun making fun of our golf game. I thought of him often and missed him since he moved to Florida and he will remain in my prayers from here on.
Barbara, I hope this note reaches you and i only sorry that i can't be there for his send off.
Your friend
Bobby DelloRusso

A true American Hero

He was all of that and more. He was forgiving, loving, kind and compassionate. As I get on in age my memories never fad and fail me when it comes to the laughter he brought into my life. His wit and sense of humor. Never one to anger and to strike out at another even in his darkest hours. There are those who can write or tell stories of how wonderful this man was but there are those who know first hand what a hero is. What a gentle soul is. What an honor it is to say thank you for everything Dad.
