I was the first president of the Coast Guard Club in The Villages. I served for three years and then sought my successor. It looked like no one was going to volunteer, but at the last minute, Joe Siegel stepped up and literally saved the Coast Guard Club. He said to me "I can't let these proud men and women lose their association with their fellow Coastguardsmen." Joe went on to serve for many years as president and improved the club significantly, not without the able assistance of his devoted wife, Mary. Membership increased and attendance at the professional and social events increased markedly during his tenure. On behalf of all his Coast Guard mates in The Villages, I say to Joe "Fair winds and following seas" on your next journey. /s/ John Murphy, USCG (retired)
