We lived A couple of doors down from Tom and Bunny in Normandy Shores, Seneca, SC. We loved them! When they decided to move, we bought their pontoon and enjoyed exchanging Christmas letters many years. How they loved their family! We were saddened to have our card returned this year with no forwarding address, but we know where they are. Someday, we will all see them again!
We send our love to the family they so loved.

I was saddened to learn of Tom's death. I had the honor of working with him at Bigelow many years ago. He was always a gentleman and a pleasure to work with. Please know that my sympathy is extended to the family.

Forty years ago, fresh out of college, I met Tom when Bigelow Sanford gave me my first professional opportunity. I had been working at various jobs for about 10 years before that, but Bigelow was my first exposure to "white collar" or "office" work, and all the things that go with it. Along the way, while with Bigelow, I recall Tom being a stable and sound influence, not only about work tasks, but regarding demeanor and decorum as well. He made a lasting impression on a very young man just beginning all those decades ago.
His WW2 service was unknown to me until now, but his bearing and personality gave ongoing honor to his service to his country.
His work in pursuit of his faith also fits with the man I remember, though it was never a topic about which we spoke.
He kept a book on his desk entitled "Manage More by Doing Less." The idea always puzzled and fascinated me. Never forgetting those title words, though I never read the book, the idea of focusing on what must be done and empowering others in the right ways became part of my journey. In that small way, also, Tom helped me see the path ahead.

I knew Tom during the period when I lived at Sumter Grand. He led the Wednesday night Bible studies. He had the ability to make the people of the Bible come alive---and be very human. Also, he brought maps and covered the geography as the apostles, and
particularly St. Paul moved around. He was good at explaining some of the trickier (sometimes contradictory) verses in the Bible. He had the talent to be able to lead the group discussions---so that everyone was able to participate. He wore his religion like a second set of skin---just very natural. He was such a wonderful man. He made you feel better even just saying hello to each other at the mail box. Wednesday nights were just fun---full of fellowship, learning, education and spiritual well being. I know he has gone to a better place, but his absence leaves a hole in the fabric of our lives. He will be missed for a very long time.

Rick & Orinda and the entire Christoph family,
I am so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. He was a true scholar and gentleman, and I am honored that I was able to get to know him a bit. I particularly loved all his stories and the smile he had when he told them. My condolences to you all.
