Gerry Siver posted a condolence

Just wanted to extend our condolences to the family of John and Marge. They were true friends of the Siver family! They were at every family event....Happy and sad, there to lend support, love and help. I will always cherish the memories of living with them when I went to college in Utica. From the beers in the garage at the end of the day to the late nights creating projects for art school in the basement! John affectionately would call me Scorchabali!! He was always there with a word of encouragement and quick witted zinger to make you laugh out loud! I think John gave all the Sivers their road test...He was all business when he was in the car with us! Some of us passed on the first try....Some of us needed to try harder the next time! He would park the camper in my parents backyard in Dexter NY when John gave road tests in Watertown. One morning at 6:30 am we heard John screaming in the backyard only to look out the window to see John in his T-shirt and shorts...with a facefull of shaving cream, towel draped over his arm, razor in one hand and his foot against the pigpen trying to keep a 600 lb sow from escaping! After several hysterical minutes...he perservered in helping to foil its attempt! He was a gentle soul and it is up to us to carry on with the examples of generosity, courage, integrity that our parents so selflessly displayed throughout their lives. They are together now and wish you all happiness!

We are so glad that so many family members were able to celebrate John's birthday. Taking pictures and watching all the grandchildren on the front porch with John was a delight.
John you touched so many hearts. We and so many more will miss you very much.
Now it is your turn to walk with our father. May the Lord always be with you,
Love,
Wendy and Don

Uncle Bob was one of the most interesting people I've ever known. From his time as a guard at Alcatraz to his stories of being in the Army and his return trip to Korea. I'm grateful I got to see him last year when he made the trip from Florida up to NY to be with Dad (his little brother) at mom's funeral. Making that trip at 90 speaks to the kind of man he was and why he will be missed.

We will never know how many lives you changed by what you did for the orphanage during the Korean War. Compassion in the middle of a nightmare.
