Obituary of Benton Ten Broeck

OCALA - B. William "Bill" Ten Broeck, 81, of Ocala, went home to be his Lord and Savior on Wednesday October 22, 2008 with his family by his side. Born April 7, 1927 in Newburgh, NY, Bill was the son of Thomas Benton Ten Broeck and Edythe Anderson Ten Broeck. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 35 years, Louise Ten Broeck and his grandson, Jimmy Shinn. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Meg Ten Broeck, his children Bonnie Shinn, Bill Ten Broeck and Karan Ten Broeck, adopted son Marvin Capo, step-daughters Jennifer Thomas and Karyn Vehrs, grandchildren Jenny Shinn, Michelle DeFilipp, Christopher Lindsey, Courtney Lindsey, and twin sisters Joan Richert and Madelyn Moore. Mr. Ten Broeck received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Tri-State University in 1951 and a Graduate Studies degree in Soil Mechanics, Traffic Engineering, Advanced Structures and Engineering Economy from Drexel Institute of Technology shortly thereafter. He held professional registrations in the State of Florida, as well as 11 other states, in Engineering and Land Surveying. Among his societal affiliations, he was a member of Florida Engineering Society, National Society of Professional Engineers and Florida Society of Professional Land Surveyors. In addition, he served as Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the State Association of County Engineers and Road Superintendents. His professional accolades were numerous. From 1944-1946 he served in the U.S. Navy. From 1966 to 1977 he was the President and Co-Owner of TASK Engineers, Inc., of Miami, Fl. From 1977 to 1983 he was President and Owner of Ten Broeck Associates, Inc., also of Miami, Fl. In 1983, he re-located to the Ocala/Marion County area where he accepted the position as the County Engineer. In 1984 he became the Transportation and Public Works Director of Marion County where he served until 1987 when he accepted the position as the Ocala City Engineer. In 2000, Mr. Ten Broeck retired to enjoy his hobbies, which included fishing, sailing, boating and camping. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He had an undeniable passion and spirit for the Lord and was an active member of Living Waters Worship Center of Ocala. A "home going" celebration will be held at 3 PM Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Living Waters Worship Center, with Bishop J.Randall Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM. Entombment will follow in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd. in charge of arrangements.
