Obituary of MSG Jerry Lynn Hinson
MSG (Retired) Jerry Lynn Hinson was born in Obion, TN and retired from the US Army after
20 years service. He was a Viet Nam Veteran and was awarded the National Defense Medal; Viet Nam
Service Medal; Viet NamCampaign Medal with 60-Device: United States Army Recruiter Badge; Good
Conduct Medal with Silver Clasp; Army Commendation Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster; Viet Nam
Gallantry Cross with Palm. After retiring from the Army he taught JROTC at Springfield High
School, Holland, OH. He moved to The Villages from Toledo, OH in 1999. He was a member of Village
View Community Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post
#347, AbouSaad Shrine; Segovia Place Golf and Card Groups, Villages Booster Club; Michigan and
the Central States Social Clubs. He was an avid golfer; loving husband, father, grandfather and a
great friend to all. He was prededed in death by parents Edward Carmichael and Helen Estele
(Sutherland) Hinson and Mother in Law Beatrice Susan (Campbell) Thompson, and two
brother-in-laws, Ed Abbley and Roger Hutton, one niece and one nephew. MSG Hinson is survived by
his wife of 47 years, Bernice Sue (Thompson) of The Villages, son, Jerry Lynn Hinson, Jr.
(Deborah) of McKinney, TX, brother, Roger Dale Hinson of Westland, MI and two sisters, Patricia
Abbley of San Ramon, CA and Mary Lee of Westland, MI. He also leaves two grandchildren, Craig
Matthew Hinson and Breanna Lynn Hinson both of McKinney, TX, father in law Oriville J. Thompson
(Blanche), sisters in law, Patricia C. Kozack (Richard); Ann Hairston(Harry); Sandra Hutton,
Helen Reynolds (Hugh), Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews numerous students and friends. Burial will
be in Flat Rock, MI with full military honors.
