My heart is saddened with the loss of one of my dearest sister-in-laws, Shirley. She has been a part of my life for 58 years and I have helped her with child care in the early years and later with her personal cares. She has been a supporter through higher education of myself and daughters as well as weddings and divorces. We shared the same enthusiasm for Hawkeye sports, plants and photography. I hope to continue to be part of the lives of her fine sons and their families. My condolences to all of them. Your Aunt Belle

Your family has my sincere sympathy at the death of your mother. Your parents were a large part of my parent's farming life. Having lost my mother this past year, I know how difficult this time is for you.

To the Shirley Day family:
You certainly have my condolences on the death of your mother. Shirley and I were born right here in Walcott. We started kindergarten together and continued in classes through our Davenport High School graduation in the year 1944. We learned to roller skate on the long wood hallway when her folks lived above the bank. I cherish many memories of our childhood. May God be with you and bless you. What a wonderful mother.

On behalf of the Malcolm family, it is with great sorrow that we hear of Shirley's death. She was a very special lady. She always had a cheerful voice on the phone. She was an adoptive mother to my sister Ann when Shirley and Dave lived in Boston and Ann was in graduate school there. My mother Jeanne was so relieved when Shirley and Dave were able to be guardian angels. She was an adoptive mom to me when I was attending Iowa. There was nothing more fun than to go to a football game with Shirley and Dave. My family remembers fondly the wonderful dinners that she and Dave would host at the Athletic club. Many of the pictures my family have of all of us together were taken by Shirley. She will be missed.

My sympathy and prayers are with the family. I so enjoyed getting to know Shirley, and the rest of the family. It meant alot to me while living in Phoenix that she invited us to dinner. I so enjoyed each time we were able to see and talk to her. I always looked forward to Memorial Day at Walcott Cemetary, and the chance to have a few moments to talk. Even though the years have gone by, and distance has spread us all, I will miss her.

Please accept my condolences at this time of loss. I am the youngest daughter of Gene Weih, one of Shirley's cousins. And I was one of the lucky recipients of the many photo albums that Shirley made. I can still remember her smile when she presented me with a small booklet of pictures after my husband and I were married 18 years ago. And it is still one of my favorite collections.
Of course, I have heard many stories about Shirley from my dad. She was truly his favorite relative. She will be missed.
Most sincerely,
Stephanie Timm
