Obituary of James Antalis
Dr. James P. Antalis, 74, passed away January 21, 2009, at his home in The Villages. Dr.
Antalis was born November 17, 1934, in Weirton, WV, to the late John and Anastasia Antalis. After
graduating as valedictorian of his high school in 1952, he obtained his Bachelor's degree from
West Virginia University in 1955, and his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in
1959. Following an internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and a surgical
residency in Morgantown, West Virginia, Dr. Antalis was stationed at Nouasseur Air Base near
Casablanca, French Morocco, where he served as the base surgeon. In February 1966, Dr. Antalis
opened the Shadyside Clinic along with his brother, the late Dr. Angelo (AJ) Antalis, where he
devoted his family practice to caring for hundreds of area residents for more than thirty-five
years. Dr. Antalis volunteered his time as the team doctor for the local high school, and took
great pride in his service as the Medical Control physician of the Shadyside Volunteer Fire
Department where he was instrumental in establishing an Advanced Cardiac Life Support program
that provided paramedic-level training to area fire department personnel. Dr. Antalis is survived
by his loving family: wife Teddy (Andros) Antalis; four children, Dr. John (Denise) Antalis of
Cambridge, Ohio; Dr. George (Patty) Antalis of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Dr. Stacie (Saumil)
Jhaveri of Westlake, Ohio; and Attorney Sylvia (Shawn) Goldsmith of Avon, Ohio; nine
grandchildren, Jimmy and Nick Antalis, Anthony and Aleni Antalis, Aris, Demi and Xander Jhaveri,
Ryan and Maya Goldsmith; a brother, Lt. Col. Stephen Antalis of Dalton, Georgia; a sister, Mary
Georges of Shadyside; and fifteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents;
two brothers, AJ and Stanley; and a sister, Liberty. Funeral arrangements are being handled by

Bushnell, FL.
