Obituary of John Hambleton
HAMBLETON, JOHN ADAMS Ocala - John Adams Hambleton, Ret. Lt. Col., USAF, 80, of Ocala
died March 6, 2009 as the result of a plane crash. Mr. Hambleton is a native of Glyndon, MD
moving to Ocala from Ft. Walton Beach, FL in 1990 to enjoy retirement at his own airstrip. He was
an influential member of Christ Anglican Church. Mr. Hambleton was retired United States Air
Force Lt. Col after 21 years of patriotic service. He was a member of local and national chapters
of the Experimental Aircraft Association, International Cessna 195 Club, Society of Experimental
Test Pilots, Quiet Birdmen, St. Martin's Club & Treasurer of Christ Anglican Church, and
"Vice President" of Idle Wild Airport. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sarah Anne
Hambleton of Ocala; daughter, Libbie Hambleton of Destin, FL; sons, John A. Hambleton, Jr. and
wife Rhonda of Ft. Walton Beach and George C. Hambleton and wife Liz of Ft. Walton Beach; two
brothers, George B. E. Hambleton of Mendham, NJ and G. Gibson Carey, IV of Cincinnati, OH; and
eight "great" grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 4:00 PM at
Hiers Funeral Home, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd with Fr. Mark Siegel and Fr. Manuel Otero
officiating. Reception will follow at the Ocala Hilton. Burial will be Friday, March 13, 2009 at
Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL. Reception to follow at Aunt Martha's Bed and
Breakfast, 315 Shell Ave. SE, Ft. Walton Beach, FL from 4pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests contributions be made to Christ Anglican Church, 1000 NW 70th Street, Ocala, FL
