Obituary of William Schwochow
William E. "Bill" Schwochow, age 90, of Ocala, FL entered the Church Triumphant on
Thursday, June 4, 2009. He was born in Chicago, IL on October 1, 1918. He enlisted in the Army
Air Corp and served 4 years as Master Sergeant during WWII in North Africa, Sicily and southern
Italy. After his military service he returned to the states and gained employment as an
apprentice with the same company his father worked for Tyler and Hippach Glass Co. in Chicago.
Bill retired from ALLMETAL, Inc. as Executive Vice President after 35 years. His hobbies included
fishing and gardening. He was also an avid collector of clocks, coins, canes, books, timepieces
and stamps. Bill loved to play the organ. He was a very active volunteer with Hospice of Marion
Co. He was most recently a member of St. John Lutheran (LCMS) Church in Ocala. In Chicago he was
a member of Redeemer Lutheran (LCMS) Church in Highland Park. He was an active supporter of
Lutheran Laymen's League and The Lutheran Hour radio ministry of the LCMS. Bill was also a member
of the Rolling Greens VFW Post # 2009 where he served as Chaplain. He is survived by his wife of
61 years Vera Schwochow; daughters Tina (Charles) Benson, Kathy Schwochow, Judy (Vincent)
Zappavigna and Wendy (Dan) Maher; son Rev. William (Brenda) Schwochow; grandchildren Meghan,
LeRoy, Melissa (Darrell), Stephanie, Jeffrey, Allison, USAF Cadet Third Class Kyle and Ian. A
visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala on
Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at St.
John Lutheran Church, 1915 SE Lake Weir Ave, Ocala on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Rev.
Richard Lineberger officiating. Interment will take place at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park,
IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center
