Obituary of George Moody
George Edwin Moody, Sr. Born April 16, 1937 Died July 2, 2009 Moody was born and raised
in West Palm Beach. He was the fourth of five children. As a young man, George would spend his
summers staying with his older sister Evelyn in Ocala. As an adult, George followed in his
father's footsteps and worked in the family electrical business. He managed several
electrical and plumbing supply shops in south Florida. In the late 1950s George settled in Marion
County with his first wife Shirley and they had a daughter, Cathy Anne. In 1964, at the age of
27, he suffered a heart attack and moved to Franklin, North Carolina to rest and recover. A year
later, George and his family returned to Ocala and he opened his own electrical contracting
company. Besides running a successful electrical contracting company, he also owned and operated
a number of different businesses throughout Marion County. Over the years, he owned a grocery
store, pawn shop, bicycle & hobby store, electrical supply shop and lighting fixture
showroom. In his spare time, George enjoyed fishing and vacationing with his family. In 1973, his
wife Shirley died tragically of acute renal failure. A year later, George married his second wife
Deborah and they had three children. He was a hard working businessman and devoted father. He
wanted the best for his children and he spared no expense on birthdays and Christmas. He would
make financial sacrifices to send his children to private school so that they could get the best
education. George was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Florida Gators, Atlanta Braves
and NASCAR racing with his children. In 1994, George was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease and was forced to retire from the career he loved so much. Over the next 15
years, his health continued to deteriorate and on July 2, 2009 he died of complications related
