Obituary of Donald Jeffers
Jeffers, Donald J. Mr. Donald J. Jeffers, 79, of Oak Run, died Thursday, August 6, 2009,
at Legacy Hospice House. A native of Milford, MA, he moved to this area in 1986, coming here from
Long Island, New York. As a young man, he was a Boy Scout, and later served his country in both
the US Army and the Air Force. He then began his long career in law enforcement with the Town of
Islip, NY Police Department. He went on to retire from the Suffolk County Police Department as an
Inspector, where he was the commanding officer of the Internal Affairs Division. He was a
graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, President of the PBA, President of the Suffolk
County Police Conference, a member of the Superior Officers Association, the Detectives
Association, Royal Oaks Golf Club, The Loyal Order of the Moose, the Benevolent and Protective
Order of the Elks, and Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 30 years,
Jane Jeffers, 4 daughters, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held
Tuesday, August 11, 2009, from 5-7 PM, with a Prayer Service beginning at 5 PM, at Hiers-Baxley
Funeral Services, TimberRidge. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 12, at 8:30 AM, at
Queen of Peace Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Legacy Hospice House through Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4680, Ocala, FL 34478.
