Obituary of Fred Mitchell
MITCHELL, Fred Fred Mitchell, 85, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Fred was originally
from Pensacola, FL, but moved to Ocala several years ago. He was a member of many camping groups.
He was also a member of the Hadji Shrine Temple in Pensacola and Ocala, and was with the
Fireman's Brigade, and recently made honorary guard. He was a member of the VFW in Belleview,
Scottish Rite Bodies in Ocala and Pensacola, Silver Springs Moose Lodge, and the Eagles in Ocala.
He was a supporter of and volunteer for many charities, including Brothers Keeper, Senior
Services congregate meals, Shrine Rodeo, and was a Poppy Buddy. Fred retired from the US Navy,
and later retired from Rhodes Furniture in Pensacola. He loved life and never complained. He is
survived by 3 daughters, Debbie Meadows (Elton) , Shirley Hudson (Puny), Gail Garner, 2 sons
James Mitchell (Angie), Al Glass (Dottie), cousin Dick Patterson (Shirley), grandchildren Ronnie,
Carrie, Crystal, Randall, Shannon, Katy, Abigail, Mike, Carlos, Sam, and numerous great
grandchildren. He is also survived by his "sweet heart" and special friend, Pam Oglesby. Funeral
services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services,
TimberRidge, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the VFW Post #4209, 4805 NE 36th Ave. Ocala, FL 34479.
