Obituary of George Johns

JOHNS, George R., Sr. Mr. George R. Johns, Sr., 70, of Ocala, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at his residence. A native of Perry, Georgia, he moved to Ocala in 1961, coming here from Jacksonville. He served his country in the US Navy, and later worked as a state trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol. He attended the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, as well as the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. He retired after many years in the construction industry as a general contractor. Mr. Johns was a member of Marion Dunn Lodge #19, F. & A.M. as well as First Baptist Church of Ocala. He is survived by his son George R. Johns, Jr., and his brother Darrell Johns, both of Ocala, and his grandchildren Adam and Bryce. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris in 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, August 21, 2009, at First Baptist Church, 2801 SE Maricamp Road, Ocala, with Dr. Edward D. Johnson officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala.
