Obituary of Lee Griffith
GRIFFITH, Lee Allen Lee fought his last battle on September 2, 2009 and peacefully
passed away surrounded by his family. Lee was the 4th child of George and Hazel Griffith, born on
July 30, 1925. His strong sense of duty led him to enter the Navy in 1943, at the age of 17. He
and Evelyn were married October 14, 1949, and had almost 60 years of wedded bliss. He always said
"blood is thicker than water" and he showed this through his devotion and love he gave to his
family. They resided in Sterling, IL for 36 years until he retired from Northwestern Steel and
Wire. He and Evelyn then moved to Florida where Lee never "had to shovel snow and ice again." He
enjoyed traveling in retirement, spending time with family, reading, golf and spending time with
his best friend, Evelyn. He is survived by Michael (Sheryl) of Rockford, IL, Steven (Teresa) of
Conyers, GA, Lisa Allison (Rick) of Monroe, WI, Jeff (Jennifer) of Covington, GA,
grandchildren-Nathan (Mina), Melissa (Matt), Jacob (Gina), Hannah (Steve), Katie, Allison, Tyler
and Olivia; 8 great grandchildren; 2 brothers - George (Helen) and Tom (Nancy); numerous nieces
and nephews, and his special dog Ozzie who brought him so much joy in recent years. Preceded in
death by his daughter, Marilyn, parents, sister, Emily Rutt, brother, John. The family would like
to thank the staff of Legacy Hospice House in Ocala, FL for their tender care in the final days.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Monday September 7, 2009, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral
Services, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion
County.
