Obituary of Crystal Gregg
Crystal L. Slocum was born Nov. 11, 1917 to Lewis and Vera Slocum of Coleman, MI. She
was the third of nine children. She married George Herbert Gregg on Sept. 26, 1937 and to this
union four children were born, Lewis, Norma, Lloyd and Lyndon. She was preceded in death by her
parents, three sisters, her husband, and two sons. One daughter, Norma Krauss, of Summerfield, FL
and one son, Lyndon Gregg of Beaver City, NE survive her. Three sisters, Roberta Stremski and
Leona Wilson, both of Green Valley, AZ, and Athena Brugger of Lakeland, FL, two brothers, Arthur
Slocum of Indian River, MI and Charles Slocum of Alaska, 10 grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren also survive her. She attended a one-room
schoolhouse at Andersonville, MI and completed the eighth grade. She later attempted to continue
school in Coleman, MI and Later at Owasso, MI, but for unknown reasons could not finish beyond
the eighth grade. Crystal attended the Salem EUB church where she found the Lord and lived for
Him the remainder of her live. She went to Mt. Pleasant, MI to work and attended the Nazarene
Church and that is where she met The Love of Her Life. After Crystal and Herbert were married she
worked in the home to help with family finances so she could be home with her children. Crystal
took in washings, ironings, had a license to care for children in the home for several years.
Later when the family was grown she cooked at camp meetings and in 1972 Crystal and Herbert moved
to Hope Sound where whe was a cook in the Hope Sound Bible School. She also worked in the
Sonlight Tape Ministry with her husband and later worked in the Manor cooking for the elderly
patients there. They moved to Summerfield, FL in March of 1985. She was active as a monitor in
the Breezewood Christian Academy, helped in the kitchen of EBM during camp meetings, and kept up
the dorm for camp meetings and during the year for visitors coming in. Crystal and her husband
attended the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church of Lady Lake, FL. This was their church until
George Gregg passed away Dec. 6, 2006 and until Crystal Gregg went to be with Jesus on Sept. 11,
2009.
