Obituary of Donald Durost
DUROST, Donald D. Donald D. Durost, 84, went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 19,
2009. Don was an active member and usher of First Baptist Church of Ocala. He was a long time
volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a member of Rolling Greens Golf Association. He proudly served
his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. He was preceded in death by his loving wife
of 51 years, Shirley C. Durost and his brother, David Durost. Don is survived by his devoted
wife, Jean; a son, Dennis (Adele) Durost, two daughters, Sharon (Larry) Moore and Donna (Dell)
Whitt. He also leaves behind three stepchildren: George Heinrich, Sheryl (Everett) Gustafson and
Dawn Vadney. In addition, he will be missed by his brother David’s widow, Polly; two brothers,
Richard (Sally) Durost and Robert (Gail) Durost, and four sisters; Barbara Farina, Marjorie
(Glen) Gammon, Margaret George, and Audrey Sweet. Don especially loved visiting with his
seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be
dearly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be 11 AM Tuesday,
September 22, 2009, at the First Baptist Church of Ocala. The family will receive friends Monday,
from 5-7 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs, Ocala. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 2801 SE Maricamp Road, Ocala, FL
34471 in Don’s memory.
