Obituary of Arthur Sheddan
Arthur Alexander Sheddan, age 86, of Ocala, FL passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
He was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 11, 1923. Arthur was raised in Jacksonville and
joined the Merchant Marines where he served during WWII. While his ship was in port at New York
City he met his future wife Hazel Inez Strickland. They were married for 63 years. Arthur and
Inez moved to Jacksonville and raised three children. He worked for the City of Jacksonville, and
the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for over 25 years. He also was retired from the US Army
Reserve. He moved to Ocala in 1998. He is survived by his wife Hazel Inez Sheddan; son John A.
Sheddan and his wife Leona of Neptune Beach, FL; daughter Carol Slater of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL;
son Thomas E. Sheddan and his wife Aimee of Alachua, FL; 3 grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren. Arthur was a Past Master of John H. Pratt Masonic Lodge #261 and was a member of
Ionic Lodge #101 both of Jacksonville. He was also a life member and formerly the Chaplain for
Fraternal Order of Police #530 of Jacksonville. Arthur was a member of First Presbyterian Church
of Ocala. He was a lifelong amateur Ham Radio Operator, avid saltwater fisherman and competitive
pistol shooter. A memorial service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver
Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:30am. The family will receive friends
immediately after the service at the Hiers-Baxley Reception Center where refreshments will be
served. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy House, Hospice of Marion County, PO
Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478 in memory of Arthur A. Sheddan.
