Obituary of Russell Brown
Russell M. Brown, age 91, of Ocala, FL passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009. He
attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN where he received a Bachelor degree. Then he
attended the University of S. Florida where he earned a Masters degree. Russell was a business
teacher and basketball coach in Indiana for 19 years. He moved to Florida in 1959 where he served
as a vocational teacher and county supervisor of Business, Distributive and Cooperative
Vocational Education in Palm Beach County until retiring after 54 years as an educator. He served
as chairman of the Florida Business Education Association for two terms, president of the Florida
Vocational Education Association, was on the Florida Business Education Advisory Committee 15
years, and was inducted in the Vocational Education Hall of Fame as a charter member in 1988.
Russell and his wife Marijean moved to Ocala upon his retirement in 1994. They were both members
of Druid Hills United Methodist Church. Survivors include LuAnn McCoy and her husband Randy of
Ocala, two grandchildren Jennifer Chatterton of Ocala and Laura Canizo of Jupiter, FL; two
brothers, Richard Brown of Palm Desert, CA, and Edwin Brown of Peru, IN; two sisters, Marjorie
Phares of Shelbyville, IN and Mrs. Willadean O'Neal of Peru, IN. He was preceded in death by his
son, James A. Brown, November 21, 1965, his wife Marijean R. Brown, March, 18, 2009 and grandson
Robert R. McCoy, November 1, 2008. A memorial service will be celebrated at Druid Hills United
Methodist Church, 1712 SE Lake Weir Ave, Ocala, FL on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11:00am. In
