Obituary of Walter Hammett
Walter James Hammett, age 77, passed away October 20, 2009 at Munroe Regional Medical
Center in Ocala. He was born in Paterson, NJ to George and Harriet (Miller) Hammett. Mr. Hammett
was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He
moved from Rochelle Park, NJ in 1990 and was a member of the Oak Run Chords, a choir member of
the First Congregational United Church of Christ and a Life Member of VFW Post 4781. He was an
avid swimmer and golfer. Mr. Hammett leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Lois Hammett of
Ocala; one daughter Janis Murray of Spring Hill, FL; two grandsons, David Peter Murray and Kevin
James Murray both of Orlando, FL. Visitation will be Friday, October 23, 2009 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm
at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services - TimberRidge, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala. Funeral service will
follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Blair Stewart and Rev. Harold McSwain officiating. In lieu of flowers
memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ, 7171 SW Hwy.
