Obituary of Lester Aldrich
Lester Edward Aldrich, Sr. 79 Years of Age Railroad Track Supervisor He passed from this
life October 23, 2009 at Haven Hospice in Chiefland, FL with his loving family by his side. Les
was born July 28, 1930 in Woodhull, New York to Richard and Carrie where he grew up on a Dairy
farm. As a young man he went to work with the railroad, working with Erie, Erie Lackawanna and
Con-Rail for 42 years. Afterward working for Seirria Pipe Line until moving to Chiefland, FL with
his family where he worked for Mid-Florida Trucking Co. He was a Boy Scout leader and had 5 Eagle
Scouts come from his troop. He was Master of the Grange (Farm) Organization and owned with his
wife Sharon, a Dairy farm in Jasper, New York. In his later years, he and his son, Dusty,
together raised show hogs that were sold to 4H and FFA students for the Live-Stock Fair and most
recently were raising registered Red Angus, Santa Gertrudas, and Herford Cattle. He also enjoyed
wood working and gardening. Les attended First United Methodist Church where he was Chairman of
the Church Council, Pres. of United Methodist Men and held numerous other positions. He was
involved with the Pumpkin Patch sales, dinners and other activities. He is survived by his wife
Sharon of 53 years, 6 children; Roberta, Jim, Marty, Loretta (Brad), Leonard, Lester Jr. "Dusty"
(Lynda) 21 grandchildren (Crystal, Dustin, Claytin, Austin) 21 great grandchildren (Jacob, Trent)
and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers; Emma Scoonover, Gus
Aldrich, Jerry Aldrich, Winnie Sansom and Dorry Stocum. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Richard & Carrie Aldrich, sisters Hattie Newell and Carolyn Button and brother, Oscar
Aldrich. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009 at 10:00 AM at First United
Methodist Church in Chiefland with Pastor Bill Knight officiating. Burial will follow the service
at Hardeetown United Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday night from 6:00-8:00 PM at the
