Obituary of Freda A. Higgins
Ocklawaha - Freda Higgins, 88, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints, passed away on November 10, 2009. She was born on July 22, 1921. She and her husband
Richard moved to Ocklawaha, FL, from upper Michigan in 1974. Richard passed on September 5, 1991.
She is survived by her children Saundra L. Tucker (Walter) of Ocklawaha, FL; Fredric M. Kurzhals
(Darlene) of Belleview, FL; Gregory D. Kurzhals (Laureen) of Clinton Township, MI; grandmother of
10, great-grandmother of 14 and great-great-grandmother of 1. Husbands that have preceded her in
death are: Reed S. Babb, date unknown, Hazen H. Kurzhals, died 1967, Richard L. Higgins, died
1991. She loved her membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was initiated as a member in
1954 in Michigan where she served as Worthy Matron with her husband Hazen in Roseville Chapter
#468. In Florida she is a Past Matron of Belleview Chapter #122. She was a member of the Order of
the White Shrine of Jerusalem and served as a Worthy High Priestess. She was an active adviser
with both the Order of DeMolay and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Freda was a
great humanitarian - if anyone was in need she was there with a helping hand.
