Obituary of Gordon Grant
GRANT, L. Gordon Ocala-Mr. L. Gordon Grant passed away on November 15, 2009 in his
sleep. He was born in Clearwater, FL on November 29, 1930, to L. H. and Annie Grant. He attended
Randolph Macon Military Academy and moved to Ocala in 1949. He worked for his father at Ocala
Linoleum and Floor Products in the early 50's before starting his own tile business,
Grant Tile and Marble. He was a craftsman and a hard worker that always provided for this family.
He was a player-manager in fast pitch softball in the 50's and 60's for the The
Chicken Ranch, McDonald's Construction and Hasty-Greene when fast pitch softball was a
big deal in Ocala. Many of his lasting friendships came from that competitive era. He loved his
whiskey and he loved his Gators. Although he was a member of the Elks Club of Ocala and the
Masonic Lodge, he was not a big joiner. He preferred to spend his time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Mae (Johnson) and many others he loved dearly. He is
survived by his little brother, Tommy Grant, his daughter, Henrietta Yandle and her husband Mark,
his son Mike Grant, his grandson, Grant Hoffman and his wife Ginger, his best friend, Reuel
Shealy, Mardi, Logan, Aunt Shirley, Julie, Greg, Aunt Josie, Flora Ann, Mike Jenkins and a lot of
good friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Hiers-Baxley
Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL. Interment will follow in Shiloh
Cemetery in Northwest Marion County.
