Obituary of Robert M. Wolfe
Robert M. Wolfe (Bob) passed away on December 11, 2009. Bob was born in 1927 in Rock
Hill, S.C. where he spent his primary and secondary education years. In 1944, he enrolled in the
College of Engineering at Clemson University in South Carolina. His education was interrupted by
a two year tour of duty in the US Occupational army in Tokyo, Japan. Following this, he resumed
his education at Clemson and received his engineering degree in 1951. He then joined Southern
Bell Telephone Company (BellSouth). But his career was delayed by an obligation of the US Army
for a two year tour of duty in Korea. When this was over, he resumed his work in North Carolina
in 1956. He married his wife of more than 50 years, Janice, in 1956. His career strengthened
across the Southeast and included a two year assignment in New York City. After 38 years of
service, Bob retired from BellSouth, but he worked another 10 years as a consultant with
Symmetricom, a Silicon Valley Company headquartered in San Jose, California. Bob and Janice moved
from Birmingham, Alabama in 2000. Bob enjoyed golf and dancing the Carolina Shag. Bob is survived
by his wife, Janice, and in Saint Petersburg, Fl, two sons Rob (Donna) and Brad (Leslie). There
are also two grandchildren, Korey and Connor.
