Obituary of Col. John R. Crane

Lt. Col. John R. Crane, 81, of Summerfield, passed away, Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Mr. Crane was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the US Army Medical Service Corps., Korean War. After retirement he was a licensed nursing home director in New York and California. He was the first president of the board of directors for the VFW Retirement Home in Fort McCoy, FL, Charter Member and Past Commander of VFW Post 4407, Gulf Breeze, FL, Past Commander of VFW, District 1, President of the Korean War Veterans Association, President of the Pensacola Archeological Society and Florida State Chairman of the VFW Voice of Democracy Program. John held many national appointments for the VFW. He is survived by his wife Sheila and was the loving father of David, Leslie, Stephanie, and Jonathan. He was also the loving father to Joanne, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Rachel and Sheila Anne. He also leaves a brother Leslie, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 12:00 PM, Monday, December 28, 2009 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, The Villages, FL. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial with full military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery.
