Obituary of Teresa Marie Peters
Teresa Marie Peters was born in New York City as the only child of Josephine F. Zigmund
and George A. Godfrey, Terry lived her early years in Crestwood, Westchester County, NY. She
graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, NY in 1943. Terry then married her soul mate,
John J. Peters, on August 16, 1947 in Crestwood, NY. Terry and John lived in Yonkers and
Hawthorne, NY, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, Short Hills and Cranbury, NJ, before retiring to
Hampstead, NC. They then found their way to the Villages in Florida for their "second retirement"
in November 1999. For the past eighteen months, they have been residents of Homewood in The
Villages. During the 1960's, Terry worked as a secretary for Reichold Chemicals in White Plains,
NY and for a short time as a bookkeeper for Hudson's Department Store while living in Michigan.
She loved to travel though and cherished several family vacations with her children to
Williamsburg and Charlottesville, VA. They also took memorable road trips to places like Cape
Cod, Niagara Falls, and Mackinaw Island in Michigan. Terry and John also had the opportunity to
visit abroad to places such as London, Paris, Rome, and Athens, along with parts of the Far East
and Scandinavia. This included special memories of crossing "The Pond" on the Queen Mary II, as
well as various cruises including the Caribbean and Nova Scotia. One of Terry's favorite memories
of her time in Rome was when Chef Alfredo made his famous pasta for her tableside. Terry and John
also enjoyed trips to Hawaii and a cross-country train ride to the west coast on the "Silver
Bullet" to see the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone Park. When she wasn't traveling, Terry also
enjoyed making ceramics, bowling, going to the theater, and playing golf with the "9 Holer's",
while she lived in North Carolina. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother and will be remembered for her keen sense of humor and laugh, her renowned
talents as a wonderful cook, and her love and appreciation for nature, especially her fondness
for pansies which she collected along with other items from her travels. Terry is survived by her
devoted husband of over 62 years, John J. Peters, her son John G. Peters, Delray Beach, FL, her
daughter, Teresa A. Peters, from Wanaque, NJ, and her loving grandchildren, James R. Peters and
