Obituary of Boyd Dodson
DODSON, DVM, DR. BOYD C. Citra - Dr. Boyd C. Dodson, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at
a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Dr. Dodson had lived in the Ocala area for nearly 50
years. Early in his career he established an equine veterinary medicine practice. He worked for
most of the major horse farms and prominent horse people of that time. Some knew him as "Doc",
some as "Doc Dodson" and others as Boyd. He was known as "Super Doc" in his early years having
settled in Ocala from Lexington, KY, where he interned with the world's foremost equine
veterinarian clinic, Hagyard, Davis & McGee. Dr. Dodson did his undergraduate studies at
Tennessee Technological University and then graduated with his Veterinary degree from Auburn
University. He maintained a breeding farm throughout his career. He stood the prominent stallion,
Subpet, for many years and he and partners bred and raced from the products of Subpet. He is
survived by three daughters, Susan Weir, Emily Hughes and Elizabeth Self and five grandchildren,
none of which live in the Ocala area. There will be a visitation for family and friends on
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 from 5-6 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd.,
Ocala. At the conclusion of the visitation, a brief remembrance service will be held. Boyd asked
