Obituary of Wallace S. Hamrick
Wallace S. Hamrick Ocala - Dr. Wallace S. Hamrick went home to be with his heavenly
father on January 21, 2010. He was born in West Palm Beach on his mother's birthday, January 23,
1930. He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Elsie, plus three children who where his
pride and joy; Steve (Betty), a teach at Howard Middle; Mike (Diana), a pastor at Sand Spring
Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg, KY; and Susan Himes (Charles), and attorney at Northern Trust in
Venice, FL; 8 grandchildren; and a brother Bill Hamrick from Ft. Pierce. Wally was an
Administrator on the college level. He graduated from FSU with his Bachelors and Masters and
received his doctorate at Michigan State. He was the Director of Lifelong Learning at CFCC and an
adjunct professor at St. Leo's as an inter supervisor. He also taught at Ocala Springs, Anthony,
and Fessenden where he was Teacher of the year. He was a member of the First United Methodist
Church - serving in many capacities as lay speaker, teacher, usher, and Committee on Evangelism.
He was an active member of the Kiwanis's Club of Ocala, serving locally as President, Lt. Gov.
and also at the State level as Evangelism Chair and the highest state level as Governor of the FL
District. He served MCREA (Marion Co. Retired Educators) in many capacities which included
writing the monthly newsletter. His theme for life was Isaiah 40:31 - "But they that wait upon
the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and
not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First
United Methodist Church (Ennis wynn Scholarship), Kiwanis Club of Ocala (Camp Kiwanis), MCREA
(Betty Butler Scholarship), or Hospice of Marion County. A gathering will be held from 5 - 7 PM
on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services - Ocala Chapel, 910 SE Silver
Springs Blvd. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, January 25, 2010 at First United
Methodist Church, 1126 East Silver Springs Blvd with his son, Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating.
