Obituary of Kenneth Zanter

Kenneth Zanter, age 74, of the Villages, FL passed away on Friday, 22 January 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in the town of La Crosse, WI to the late Joseph and Josephine Zanter. There he attended St. Wenceslaus parochial School and Aquinas High School graduating in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy (1956-1959) as a machinst-mate attaining the rank of second class petty officer. On November 4, 1961 he was united in marriage to Cecilie Schreiner in La Crosse, WI. Mr. Zanter and his wife remained in La Crosse serving the city as a firefighter for thirty years. There he was a member of Holy Trinity Church (diocese of La Crosse) serving in various church organizations, and was especially active in the Boy Scouts of America where he served as a father, leader, council member. In 1989 Kenneth he was awarded the Silver Beaver, and St. George Emblem in recognition of his service to BSA and the activities of boy scouts in the Gateway Area Council. He was an avid golfer, traveler, and outdoor sports enthusiast. He also enjoyed woodworking and ceramics and was a member of The Villages Clayers club. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Ceil, his daughter Linda, and sons Mark and Joseph; four granchildren, Nikolas, Colette, Ian, and Annie-Laurie, his brother Joe and sister Mari-jo. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie, and two brothers, Paul and James. Memorial services for Kenneth Zanter will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, January 28, 2010, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church 7165 Southeast Highway 42, Summerfield, FL 34491-5301 (352) 347-9317 followed immediately by burial services at Florida National cemetary, Bushnell, FL. An informal gathering for family and friends will be held at the Mulberry Center in The Villages (352) 259-6040. We would like to thank all of the doctors and staff of TVRH ICU, the clergy of St. Mark's, and the many friends who have offered kind words and substantive support in the family's time of need.
