Obituary of Peter Fort
Peter H. "Buck" Fort, 89, of Candler, passed away at Tuscany Hospice House on Friday, February 19, 2010. He was a native of Nocatee, FL, moving to Candler as a child. He is a graduate of Summerfield High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Force later re-enlisting in the Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Fort was an avid outdoorsman and officiated basketball and football at the high school and college level. He also played semi professional baseball for the Ocala Semi Pros during the '50's. He was a foreman of the Hose Division at Townley Manufacturing. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Townley, Candler; son, Richard "Ric" (Barbara) Fort of Candler; sisters, Dorothy Hailey, Inverness; Estelle Stewart, Ocala; and Christine Bryant, Ocala; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great- granddaughter. He is predeceased by his wife, Margaret Fort and sister, Margaret Cairns. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at United Christian Church, 10370 SE 110th Street Road, Candler, with Pastor Joe Cogdell officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 5946 SE Robinson Road, Belleview, Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Interment to follow at Candler Cemetery.
