Obituary of John Lyons

John Albert Lyons, 76 of The Villages, FL died Monday March 8, 2010 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born November 18, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA son of the late Clarence and Matilda (Brosi) Lyons. He was predeceased by a brother; Clarence Lyons. He spent 41 years working for E.I. DuPont with time split between the Consumer and Automotive paint groups. He began his career in the shipping department of a Pittsburgh warehouse and ended it as a Regional Sales Manager. His hard work and professionalism was recognized with numerous awards. During his career he lived in numerous states, MI, NH, IL, LA, MN, and eventually retiring in Florida. During his time in NH John was very involved in youth baseball; He coached a number of championship teams, and helped establish the Nashua Northwest Little League. John was also an Army veteran of the Korean War. During his retirement he was an avid golfer, loved bowling and also pitching horseshoes. He was a past president of the Villages Pittsburgh Club, and of the Orange Blossom Squares square dancing club. In addition he loved to travel and took many trips with his wife, Betty J. Lyons, of 56 years traveling the highways and byways of this great country. He loved his grandchildren and included them in his travels whenever possible. He was a lifetime member of the Nashua Elks, Lodge 720 of Nashua NH, as well as a member of the Masons, Perry-Ionic Lodge 796 of Wexofrd PA. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Betty J. Lyons of The Villages FL. Members of his loving family include: one son and daughter-in-law, David and Stephanie Lyons of Merrimack NH; four grandchildren, Joshua Lyons, Kurtis Lyons, Martin Lyons, and Natalie Lyons all of Merrimack NH, One sister in-law Mary (Fuchs) Waldschmidt of Pittsburg PA, one nephew William Waldschmidt of Bradford Woods PA, and three nieces Karen Bittner of Oakdale PA, Diane Lynch of Shaler PA, and Nancy Carnevale of Freeport PA. Viewing Hours will be held on Tuesday March 16th, from 1pm-3pm with service immediately following in the HIERS-BAXLEY FUNERAL HOME, 1511 BUENOS AIRES BLVD., IN THE VILLAGES, FL. 352-753-8353. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations in John's loving memory to a charity of your choice.
