I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. I pray a merciful God may assuage the pain of your loss and leave you only the cherished memories of loved.
I am a Dennis family genealogist. Mr. Gimma's wife I believe to be the daughter of William and Rebecca Dennis Hannah. I wish to complete my genealogy of Rebecca Dennis Hannah's daughter. If agreeable, I would greatly appreciate it if a descendant of the Gimma family contact me with the purpose of exchanging family genealogical information. Thank you very much. If this intrusion is unwelcome, please accept my apologies.

John gave me my first job on the Mississippi coast and from him and John Jr. and Liz I learned a lot about being a good decent human being. With his help
I became one of the best salesman on the planet. John was a very good friend and mentor. His passing leaves a vacumn that will be very hard to fill.
May god bless and keep John Gimma and his family.

John Gimma was a hero to me when I was a little boy. He was the Chrysler Dealer In Gulfport and a really cool guy. My dad, Ed French was a Chrysler man and every two years John would send a new Chrysler over to the drug store, French Drug Co, for his approval. That was the way the deal was done. When I was about 10 or 12 years old Mr. Gimma gave me a model of a Chrysler 300 that had been sent to him by the Chrysler Corp. What a great gift that was! Johnny Jr and I grew up together starting out in 1st grade and going all the way through high school together. We spent our younger days riding mini-bikes around Bayou View. I remember overnight trips on the Gimma's yacht, the Par Five. I also remember fondly when Linda gave Johnny and me a ride to school in a Panther Pink 1971 Plymouth Cuda! Wow, those were the days! I'll always remember how kind and generous Mr Gimma and the whole family were to me. By the way, the way I remember it, the dealer slogan was "You'll like the way John Gimma treats you, come and be satisfied" I still remember the jingle as it was played on the radio!

Our thoughts are with the Gimma Family. John was King d'Iberville of the Gulf Coast Mardi Gras in 1959 and I was Queen Ixolib. "Our families shared a wonderful time at that Mardi Gras. My father was also a Buick Chevrolet dealer at the same time. John and I would have shared our 50 year anniversary at the 2009 Mardi Gras celebration. He was remembered by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Johnny and I grew up together. We used to fool around on the family boat the "Mar-Joe" (joint ownership between Uncle Marion and Uncle Joe) tied to the side of the canal that ran behind Uncle Mario's house in Freeport, L.I. then out to open water along the coast of L.I. Johnny kept his love of boats while I lost it because it is 90% work on the boat, and 10% sailing time. Johnny still had his boat when he had the Chrysler dealership in Gulf Port, Mississippi. In this he followed his father's footsteps. Uncle Mario use to sell a car called the "Mormon." Tragedy struck Johnny's business when Hurricane Camille struck Biloxi, Gulf Port, and New Orleans. It also wiped out the brand new wall-to-wall carpet he had just laid the day before! Years afterwards I had business in that area, and passing through on the coast road I could see that the abandoned dealership building still had the name, in the fading paint: John Gimma Chrylser.
His agency's motto was "John Gimma treats you right!" That pretty well sums up Johnny. I'm gonna miss him a lot.

My cousin Johnny was the real deal. He learned hard work at a very early age and was multitasking long before the advent of computers and PDAs. Truly a self-made man, he took what he learned from his father, my Uncle Mario, and my Dad and made his own way in life. Through good times and bad, he always approached life in the same Gimma fashion - head on. While he certainly had a serious side, most of my memories of him include copious amounts of laughter and love. There was the time that Johnny came to visit us in New York. We had a houseful, so Johnny offered to sleep downstairs in a small apartment that Mom and Dad owned in the same building. No one mentioned that it did not have air conditioning. Even though it was one of the hottest nights of the summer he did not come back upstairs - he knew what my Father would say. The next morning, however, there were tall tales about paint melting, how it would have been cooler to sleep on the surface of the sun and the list went on throughout breakfast. We all laughed much more than we ate. Needless to say, Johnny slept upstairs the next night and a few weeks later the apartment was air conditioned, a fact that he never let my Father forget. I also remember Speckled Trout fishing in the Gulf off of the Chandeleur Islands. Among his many attributes, Johnny was also very street-wise. He put my Dad and Uncle Mario together in their own boat. While they drove around in circles arguing with each other (in a brotherly way), he and I caught a boat-load of fish. Back on his yacht he cooked us a fabulous fish dinner, capped off with frozen Heath Bars for dessert. My only regret is that I did not have a camera that day. Whether you agreed with Johnny or not, you always had to respect him. His no-nonsense approach demanded that. Admiral Farragut once said, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" I don't think Johnny ever backed off the throttles. I will miss his laugh. He will always have a place in my heart.

Mario, Please extend my condolences to your family and know that even though I am aware of how close your dad was to you I don't have any words that could console you.
The short time I spent while living at your home along with your dad, I saw that he was unique. As a person, and as a personality, it was a pleasure to be in his company. I am sure he will be missed very much by you and your family. Please accept my condolences. Ed D'Alessandro

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gimma but, I felt like I knew him anyway through the countless conversations his daughter (Elizabeth my neighbor and now like a sister) and I had about her daddy. Through her eyes her daddy was her hero and when she spoke about him she would glow, and I can see why. My deepest condolences to the Gimma family, know that now heaven has another Italian Angel watching over you.

I was deeply saddened to hear of John's passing. Over the last two years, John has become a very important part of my life. I had the privilege to work with and learn from John as well as spend countless weekends on the golf course with him. His abundance of knowledge and valuable life stories have molded me professionally and taught me things I would have never learned in school. I've often said that John Gimma was my mentor and I will always value our relationship. The golf course is going to be a very lonely place without John. We'll tee up again buddy.

I have had the honor of working with John professionally in advertising his wonderful Columbia Par Cars on the radio over the past several years. He was always eager to explain the attributes of his golf cars that placed them head and shoulders above the competition. He was a consummate salesman. While I'm sure he was respected by his employees and associates at the company for his zeal, I know he was equally focused on the golf course. Many of us who play the game of golf can only hope to end this life as John did, participating in the sport he liked best. I pass along my most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and business associates. I will sorely miss working with John and I am sure he already has a tee time in the afterlife with Bagger Vance as his caddie.

John Gimma is emblazened in my mind forever! Honesty and hard work is what he wanted people to remember of him but I will remember him for his endless wealth of life stories and for his compassion and fairness with others. Having had the privelage, honor and challenge (those of you who ever worked with John know exactly what I mean by use of the word challenge) of working with John for the last 6 years I marveled at his boundless energy and communication skills. John was the professionals professional.
John will be a piece of velvet fabric in my life's quilt of people that is being stitched together piece by piece.
John,
May you always rest and find life's renewal in Jesus' gentle grip!
