Obituary of Maria Elaine Zapatero
Maria Zapatero died tragically on March 30, 2010 as a result of a traffic accident in Summerfield, Florida. Maria was born in Victoria de las Tunas, Cuba and persevered through communist rule in Cuba until immigrating to America in hopes of a better life and education for her children. The Zapatero's settled in Freeport, NY in 1966 and soon became a proud citizen of the United States. She was a tireless fund raiser for a cause and people she believed in. She was a caring and involved parent who sacrificed to educate her children. She became a successful entrepreneur and owner of three businesses on Main Street in Freeport.
Maria is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dagoberto; sons Jose Miguel of Lexington, VA; Dagoberto and his wife Leslie of Virginia Beach; grandchildren Caroline and Zachary Dag. A service will be held at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Monday, April 5th, at 11am.
