Obituary of James Patrick O'Connell
James Patrick O'Connell, Sr., age 90, died peaceably in his sleep on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Jim was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved to The Villages, FL from Danbury, CT. in 2006.
He was a retired police officer with 33 years in the New York City Police Department with the 62nd Precinct in Brooklyn; a member of St. Timothy Catholic Community, Lady Lake, FL. and St. Edward the Confessor, New Fairfield, CT. The American Legion Post 347, and a U.S. World War II Army veteran with the 20th Armored Division in Germany. Jim was best known for his piano playing and "Irish Wit".
Jim is survived by his children James O'Connell, Jr. and wife Christine, The Villages, FL; daughter Judith Ann O'Connell, Basking Ridge, N.J.; three grandchildren, Rachel Ifkovits and her husband Michael, Danbury, CT., James O'Connell, III, The Villages, FL., and Elizabeth O'Connell, Basking Ridge, N.J.; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Ifkovits. He was predeceased in 1992 by his wife Veronica, and in 1998 by his daughter, Dr. Kathleen O'Connell-Corcoran.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward the Confessor in New Fairfield, CT. on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 11 A.M. followed by an inurnment on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11 A.M. at St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y.
