Obituary of Leon Carl Jones
Leon Carl Jones, of Chiefland, went to his heavenly home May 1, 2010. He was born on July 1, 1936 in Miami Fl to Ruby and Carl Jones. He moved to Chiefland in 1973 and started his business, Sunshine Concrete in 1976, which he sold in 1997 and retired. He was a well respected businessman and will be missed by all who knew him. He was an avid fisherman and loved being on the water. He lived, laughed, and loved to the fullest extent. In recent years, Leon spent much of his time in his vacation home near Asheville, North Carolina. One of his favorite quotes is "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "WOW- What a ride!" . He is survived by his wife of 29 years Donna G. Jones, his mother Ruby Jones, children Diana Stephens (Robert), Jimmy Jones (Sue), Ginger DeWees (Rick), Melissa Arrington, Daniel Arrington, Jeremy Arrington, and Crystal Jones. Grandchildren are Kevin Stephens, Keith Stephens, Daniel DeWees, Kim DeWees, Christopher Jones, Jo Ann Arnold, Evelyn White, Wyatt Hagan, Hiatt Hagan, and Hayden McCall and 4 great grandchildren. Siblings are Roberta Griswold, Pat Olsen and Phyllis Bowen. He had many nieces and nephews. One nephew, Christian Perkins, was especially close to Leon's heart. When Christian wasn't at school he could be found by Leon's side. They were so close that the family jokingly referred to Christian as Leon's "other son."
