Obituary of Ray Burnett

Ray Burnett, 89 passed away May 7, 2010 at Shands Cancer Hospital in Gainesville, FL. Mr. Burnett was born October 1, 1920 in Trenton, FL to James S. and Nannie V. Burnett. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, 1942-1945 with 27th Engineer Combat Battalion, South Pacific Theater. Invasions: New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, Philippine Islands and Japan. Mr. Burnett was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Honorable Service Lapel Button, Marksman Badge and Rifle Bar. As a young man, he went to work for Patterson-McInnis Lumber Company in Gulf Hammock and later worked with Tri-County Oil in Williston. He retired from Levy County Recycle in Bronson, FL. Mr. Burnett was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bronson. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances H. Burnett of Bronson, daughters Barbara (Dave) Shewey and Kathryn (Larry) Crews, both of Bronson, sons Larry (Shirley) Burnett of Tallahassee and Jimmy (Linda) Burnett of Fanning Springs, brother John Wesley Burnett of Ocean City, MS, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11 am at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services Chapel in Chiefland, FL. Burial will be at Rosemary Cemetery in Bronson, FL.
