Obituary of Hassel Conrad High
Hassel Conrad High, age 78, of Ocala, FL, died on Wednesday, June 3, 2010 in Ocala, FL. Born on September 14, 1931, son to the late Roy W. and Ethel Mae (Giles) High, in Richmond, VA, he came here from Winter Garden, FL in 1996. Conrad was an Air Force Master Sergeant (Ret), having served in Korea. He worked as a Field Maintenance Supervisor for his entire Air Force career. Over the years he worked at Michaud Corp. in Louisiana, Boeing Aircraft in Washington State and the Virginia Air National Guard in Virginia where he retired after 25 years of service. He worked at Cape Canaveral with the Space Program helping to build the Atlas Rocket. He was a man of many talents and always kept busy. He was known to always help others and was an animal lover and activist. He was of the Methodist faith. Conrad leaves behind to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife Mary Jane Cathcart High of Ocala, FL; son Hassel Conrad High, Jr. of Richmond, VA; step son Cameron Lee Cathcart of Ocala, FL; step son Michael Ashley Cathcart of Philadelphia, TN; beloved cousin Gladys Mann of Richmond, VA and a special friend Harry Pritchard of Fredericksburg, VA. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers James and Howard High. A private service for family only will be held at the funeral home with The Rev. James Bullock officiating. A committal service with full military honors will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 1:30pm. Arrangements are being handled by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Ocala, FL.
