Obituary of Douglas Moore
Dr. Douglas V. Moore
Dr. Douglas V. Moore, 66, of Ocala, died suddenly Friday morning, June 4, 2010, at Munroe Regional Medical Center. Although born in Indiana, Doug was raised in Ocala, moving here when he was 4 years old. He went from Happy Hearts Kindergarten, through Ocala High School, and on to CFCC, before moving on to graduate from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, VA, where he received his Bachelors degree, Lexington Theological Seminary where obtained his Masters, and the Lake Charles Bible College where he earned his Doctorate.
Dr. Moore recently retired as Senior Pastor on his 66 birthday from First Christian Church, where he had served for the last 12 years. In more than 40 years of ministry, he served at a half-dozen Disciples of Christ churches in five states, before returning to pastor the church his father had pastored before him. Doug used his powerful voice not just in his preaching, but in his singing as well. He was respected by his peers and served as President of the Marion County Ministerial Association. In addition to being loved dearly by his family, he was loved by his church families, the numerous communities in which he served, and those "special friends" from the Ocala High School Class of '62. He was an avid golfer, and had many friends in the local golf community.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Ruby, daughters Sherry Budniak (Chris), Missouri, H. Colleen DeVille (Ramsey), Ocala, sons Rodney Moore (Ana), Texas, Robert Moore, Texas, and Steven D. Moore (Judy), Texas, his mother Colleen Moore, Valdosta, GA, brothers William Moore (Yvette), Valdosta and John T.
