Obituary of Johnny Proctor Caruthers

Johnny Caruthers, Sr. 86, Ocala, FL departed this world to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at his residence attended by Odyssey Health Care. He was born in Oxford, Sumter County, Florida, and is survived by his children, Johnny (Sharon) P. Caruthers, Jr., Ocala, Patricia (Randy) D. Gwaltney, Oxford, Linda (Roger) A. Roloff, Ocala, Wanda (Richard) M. Pooley, Orlando, Donald (Kathleen) G. Caruthers, Ocala, Paul (Cathy) White, Sarasota, and Sydney S. Caruthers, Ocala; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five nieces; and six nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Stewart in February, 1960, and Melba White in July, 2003; parents, Simmie S. Caruthers, I, and Hattie Perry Caruthers of Oxford; siblings, Simmie Caruthers, II, and Jessie Caruthers, both of Sanford, and Helen Thomas, Wildwood. He was an accountant. Mr. Caruthers was member of Central Baptist Church of Ocala, FL. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 part of which service was spent in the Marshall Islands in the Philippines. He always had large family dinners at his home in Ocala and attended all family reunions faithfully. He enjoyed family, football, baseball, and golf. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be provided to Gideon Bibles, or to Central Baptist Church. Visitation Friday, July 30th 4:PM-6:PM HIERS-BAXLEY FUNERAL SERVICES, 352-629-7171. Vault burial will follow at Pine Level Cemetery, off Highway 301, Oxford, FL. Following the burial food will be served for all family and friends at the fellowship hall of Oxford Baptist Church off Highway 301, Oxford, FL.
