Obituary of Virginia Peek Smith

SMITH, Virginia Peek Mrs. Virginia Peek Smith, 97, of Ocala, died at her residence Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Born in Ocala, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Eugene G. Peek, Sr. and Elizabeth Hobbs Peek. She graduated from Ocala High School, and attended Goucher College, Converse College, and was a graduate of Stetson University. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Pioneer Garden Club, Delta Delta Delta Sorority, First Presbyterian Church of Ocala and was a Life Master at Duplicate Bridge. One of her hobbies was Faberge` eggery, and she was well known for her beautiful roses. Mrs. Smith is survived by her son and daughter in law Gordon and Carolyn Smith, grandchildren Peek Smith, Michael Smith, Andrew Smith, James Smith, Kathy Stieber, Leslie Chalfont, 9 great grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Jane Smith, Rose Renfroe, as well as her special care givers Beverly McFarlane and Delores Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her husband James M. Smith, Jr., and her son James M. Smith, III, and her brother Dr. Eugene G. Peek, Jr. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church of Ocala, with Dr. Raymond Guterman officiating. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
