Obituary of Avis Hammond

Avis E. Hammond, age 81, of Dunnellon, FL passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. She was born in Bucksport, Maine on June 1, 1929. She was raised in New Hampshire and was a 1947 graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH. She met and married Gene Hammond after his military service with the US Navy. Together they raised two children. Gene passed away about 20 years ago. She is also predeceased by two daughters Donna and Kerry. Avis was known by her family as a fiery redhead who loved to socialize. She loved to golf, fish and fly airplanes. Her family considered her to be very brave and willing to try anything. When she was younger Avis donated a kidney to her brother Arthur, before donation was a common procedure, extending his life for several years. She is survived by her granddaughters Katie and Jessica; sisters Mary, Ginny, Phyllis and Maisy; brother Rod; and friend John. A memorial service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E.
