Obituary of Evelyn M. Hendrickson

Evelyn M. Hendrickson, age 95, of Sparr, FL passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 (the 75th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and Evelyn Hendrickson) at The Tuscany House, Hospice of Marion Co. due to inoperable cancer. She was born in Marcus, IA on March 16, 1915. She was raised in Iowa where she met and married Lloyd H. Hendrickson. Together they raised two children. Over her life Evelyn helped her husband with their dairy farm in MN and then operating Hendrickson Electric & Plumbing Co. in Sparr. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparr where she was a pianist, organist, choir director, Sunday School teacher and helped with missions outreach. Her hobbies included sewing, needlework, music, stamp collecting, house painting, wallpapering and baking. She was a former member of the Ocala Yacht & Boat Club, Sparr Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Ocala Power Squadron Auxiliary, Good Sam's RV Clubs, and volunteered at Interfaith Emergency Services. She was particularly proud of her yard which looked like a well kept park. In the year 1933 she taught 8 grades of students in a single room school. At the age of 31 she learned how to fly a single engine Aeronca airplane. In 1948 Evelyn and her family moved to Florida due to health reasons. She is survived by her son Alan (Ruth) Hendrickson, Sparr, FL; her daughter June (Dusty) Yaxley, Seffner, FL; sister Dorothy Petersen, Marcus, IA; brother Ronald (Loretta) Dorr, Boca Raton, FL; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hendrickson and her brother George Dorr. A visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala on Friday, October 1, 2010 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. A funeral service will also be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 6:00pm. Interment will take place at Anthony Cemetery, Anthony, FL on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 2:00pm.
