Obituary of Peter Kirilenko
Peter Kirilenko, 92,died at his residence in Top of The World, Ocala, Florida on Saturday, November 13, 2010. Formerly of Annadale Staten Island, New York Mr. Kirilenko worked for 32 Years as a civilian employee for the United States Coast Guard starting as an auto mechanic in 1949 and retiring as General Foreman on Governor's Island in 1981. He moved to Ocala, FL in 1985 where he enjoyed bowling, golfing and exercising-he worked out in the gym 4-5 days a week and walked up to 60 miles each month until last year when his health failed. His daughter Linda recalls his love for the horses of Ocala, in particular a red horse he affectionately named "Big Red" who he visited several times a week bringing carrots and horse treats. Mr. Kirilenko attended Ft. Trumbull in CT and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, traveling to South Africa, Brazil, Carrachi, India and Madagascar. He grew up in Meirs Corners and lived in South Beach and New Dorp before settling in Annadale; all on Staten Island. His wife Mildred died in 1985. Mr. Kirilenko is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Cannizzaro of Princes Bay and Dr. Linda Kirilenko of Woodbridge, VA. In addition to his daughters are 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His daughter Barbara said he enjoyed more than anything else spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddchildren and never missed an opportunity to show some of the hundreds of pictures he had of his family, to anyone at anytime. His love and guidance provided a solid foundation for his family that will go on forever. He was a friend to everyone and had a wonderful sense of humor and great deal of compassion for those in need. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 8:30AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ocala. Condolences may be given at www.hiers-baxley.com .
