Obituary of Marlin Paul Beckey
THE VILLAGES, FLORIDA
Marlin Paul Beckey passed away on Friday, December 10, 2010, at Cornerstone Hospice House in Sumterville, Florida
Marlin was born on May 9, 1929, at Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Mattye Pieters Beckey. At age 17 he joined the music staff at Radio Station WOC, Davenport, Iowa. He sang with various bands in the Quad-City Area of Iowa and Illinois, appearing on television and radio. He retired from AMCCOM, Rock Island, Illinois Arsenal.
He was first married to Elizabeth Haynie in 1967, and she passed away in 1988. He married Florence Havemann in 1995, and upon retirement they moved to The Villages, Florida.
Marlin was a dog lover all his life. He enjoyed performing with Connie Waldren and the Way, Way, Way Off Broadway Troupe, and he loved singing any time, any place.
He is survived by his widow, Florence; step-daughter Cindy De Vos (and Weis), Alpine, Wyoming; daughter-in-law Cindy Haynie, East Moline, Illinois; step-son Mark Havemann (and Wendy) of Des Moines, Iowa; and step-daughter Joan Curtiss, Loveland, Colorado; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife; by his parents; by his three brothers, Vincent, Norbert and Darrell; and by two step-sons, John and Jim Haynie.
Marlin was of the Lutheran faith, and his funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Hope Lutheran Church, Morse Boulevard and Hwy #466, The Villages, FL.
