Obituary of Joe I. Whitmore

WHITMORE, Joe I. Joe I. Whitmore, 77 of Ocala, FL died Friday, December 10, 2010. He was born November 23, 1933 in Poole, KY. He was a retired Real Estate Broker, and had worked as the City of Ocala's Real Estate Officer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ocala, and was of the Methodist Faith since his childhood in Poole, KY. Joe retired as a Lt. Col. after serving in the US Air Force for 23 years. He flew and served his country on many missions including Vietnam flying C-130's and retired as the Commander of a C-121 unit at Homestead Air Force Base. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Whitmore; his daughter Shari Burnett, Ocala, and her son Larry Butler of Acworth, GA, and his wife Brandie and their 2 children Nicholas and Andrew; his daughter Renee Rains of Kennesaw, GA and her husband Scott, and their 3 children Kyle, Ryan, and Rachel; his son Gary Whitmore of Silver Springs Shores and his wife Ashley and their 2 children Ariel and Garret. He was preceded in death by his son Greg, who has 2 children, Milani and her husband Ken Costello, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Logan Whitmore of Ormond Beach, FL. He is also survived by his brother Richard and his family from Huntsville, AL. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 AM Thursday, December 16, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, 1126 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, with Dr. John Few officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Wednesday, December 15, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.
