Obituary of Thomas Layfette Shrader

Thomas Layfette Shrader, 92 of Ocala, FL, died Friday, January 7, 2011 at Legacy Hospice House. He was born to Thomas and Susie Shrader on August 3, 1918 in Cove Creek, VA. Before moving to Florida in 1958, he was owner of a fuel oil company in Bluefield, VA. When he retired he was automotive service manager at Sears in Daytona Beach. He was a member of Southwest Christian Church. As a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during WWII as a B24 Waist Gunner and during his enlistment flew 50 combat missions out of Italy. Thomas was a giving man who cared genuinely for all people, providing him much fulfillment. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth Shrader, and also one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his daughters Linda Reinhart (John,dec.), Connie and Ken Davis all of Ocala, FL. 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6-8p.m., Tuesday, January 11, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services Chapel, Silver Springs Blvd in Ocala. Funeral services will be 11:00 Wednesday, January 12, with viewing one hour prior to services at Southwest Christian Church 9045 Southwest 60th Avenue, Ocala. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Southwest Christian Church in Ocala, or Hospice of Marion Co.
