Bernard S. Seefeldt
Bernard (Barney) S. Seefeldt, 86 of Ocala, FL died Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Born in Wilson, N.Y. on August 2, 1924 to George and Ida Seefeldt. Barney lived most of his life in the Ransomville, N.Y. area. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard from 1943 to 1945. During this time he was a Gunners Mate on the SS Rufus W. Peckham where he was injured during battle for which he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Victory Medal.
Barney worked as a carpenter in his early years for NU-Trend Homes. He was well known throughout the Ransomville area as a "Master" carpenter and worked on many homes in the area. He became a fireman and worked early on at the fire station at Fort Niagara before it became a State Park. Later was a fireman for the Bell Aerosystems Co. in Wheatfield, N.Y. He was also the Town of Porter Building Inspector for 25 years, retiring in 1990.
Barney was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4781 in Ocala, FL. He also served as past Commander of the VFW Lake Ontario Post 313 in Youngstown, N.Y. He enjoyed many years vacationing in Canada on Lake Mississagagon where he owned two cottages, one of which he built. He also enjoyed many years at his hunting camp in Little Valley, N.Y. where he enjoyed many years with family and friends. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He spent the last several years of his life being a caregiver for his beloved wife Dorothy, who greatly appreciated his care and love.
Barney was married to Dorothy R. Oliphant for 65 years who died on September 22, 2010. He is survived by his sons David (Lynne) Seefeldt of Ocala, FL, Bruce Seefeldt of Niagara Falls, NY, Thomas (Sandra) Seefeldt of Sanborn, NY, Peter (Lettie) Seefeldt of Ransomville, NY and daughter Jane (Thomas) Stevens of Ashville, OH, along with 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, his brother Ralph (Nellann) Seefeldt and several nieces, nephews, special in-laws, and friends. He is predeceased by brothers Roger, Clinton, and sister Helen Mann.
Services to be held Thursday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Hiers-Baxley TimberRidge Chapel, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala, FL. Immediately following will be a military service with honors at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
